Venice is a city in southern Sarasota County on the Gulf of Mexico. Its historic downtown, the "island of Venice," sits between the Gulf and the Intracoastal Waterway and has shops, restaurants and tree-lined Venice Avenue. Venice is known as the "Shark Tooth Capital of the World," and beachcombers hunt for fossilized shark teeth on beaches south of the Venice Jetty, including Venice Beach and the Brohard Park area. The Venetian Waterway Park trail runs along both sides of the Intracoastal and connects to The Legacy Trail near the historic Venice Train Depot.
The population swells in winter with seasonal residents and is quieter in summer. Downtown Sarasota is a drive north up the coast.
The island of Venice. Historic homes, condos and newer infill close to the beach and downtown.
Golf and gated communities. Venice has many golf-course and gated neighborhoods, including several 55+ options.
Wellen Park. A large master-planned community nearby, partly within North Port city limits and partly in unincorporated Sarasota County, that ranked No. 3 nationally in RCLCO's mid-year 2026 new-home sales survey.
Unincorporated Venice and South Venice. Larger lots, canal homes and more varied pricing outside city limits.
The Venice mailing address covers more than the city itself, so the taxes, rules and services for a home depend on its exact location. We'll help you sort that out.
You'll find condos and villas, single-family homes, golf and gated communities, 55+ neighborhoods and new construction. Waterfront and island homes command a premium.

I-75 runs along the east side of Venice, with US-41 and Venice Avenue as the main local roads. Downtown Sarasota and Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) are to the north. Inside the city, the trail network makes biking practical. Expect heavier traffic in winter season.
